This video compared to her newer interpretation is a good example of how musicians grow and improve with time; if you haven't heard the later version, listen to it and you'll know what I'm talking about.

It's an interesting Q that Tique 06 posits. Perhaps it's the undying and loving (albeit strict) support that the arts and music receive in these societies. Cuba is another amazing example.

What makes the Russian school of piano so amazingly special?
I find they bring out the full potential of the instrument no matter the size of the player in some cases - see Oxana Mikhailoff for example - If you can get a good recording you'll hear a slight looking woman make all the sounds and more. Pure pleasure!

@chorizoalegre Russians are my favorite pianists. Look up Oxana Mikhailoff for another phenomenal Russian woman who I wish there was more of (I feel blessed to have been at her Carnegie (Weill) Hall debut. Breathtaking is an understatement.
