Operation Argus was a series of nuclear weapons tests and missile tests secretly conducted during August and September of 1958 over the South Atlantic Ocean by the United States's Defense Nuclear Agency, in conjunction with the Explorer 4 space mission. Operation Argus was conducted between the nuclear test series Operation Hardtack I and Operation Hardtack II. Contractors from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as well as a few personnel and contractors from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission were on hand as well. The time frame for Argus was substantially expedited due to the instability of the political environment [bans on atmospheric and exoatmospheric testing were forthcoming]. Consequently, the tests were conducted within a mere half year of conception (whereas "normal" testing took one to two years).

  • This is an amazingly scientific presentation. Simple to the astro-physicist. This movie was made 53 years ago. It has the appearance of being what we see privateers in the rocket/space industry are 'attempting' to accomplish now.

  • @phattieg The patriot act is unpatriotic. That damn fool got one over on us.

  • I wonder how they made these graphical demonstrations back in the day.

  • The government can't force you to tell them anything. Anyone can go through your trash. It's common knowledge. Tapping phones to find criminals has been going on for as long as phones existed. Everyone knows this.

Just because you pay taxes doesn't give you the right to destroy national security. Many people like you would publish the plans to a nuclear submarine, their mission orders, and how to make their weapons if you could. YOu're just the type of person, i can tell.

  • @BeyondNeptune And before you claim they need probable cause, read up on the Patriot act that Bush established.

  • @BeyondNeptune On the contrary, the government can demand to tap your phone, internet, screen your mail, and go through your trash if they REALLY want, so who the fuck are you to say they don't, when they can, and do? How do you think they're catching these people who are trying to buy bombs to blow up military offices? If you do something to draw attention to yourself, they WILL profile you, and determine if you are a threat. Plus, last time I checked, I too pay taxes to fund these things.

  • @phattieg the government doesn't demand to know everything you say, do, write about, so why the fuck is it your right to know everything the government does?

  • LoL, "This film has been sanitized." Gotta love the government for "protecting" us from the truth. I think the freedom of information act is both good, and bad in some ways. I don't think I want to know everything we've done. On another note, if you read up about nuclear energy and weapons, you'd wonder why anyone would want to cause that much damage. The day we have a nuclear war will be the day everyone dies. Read up on it and you'll see why. It will make all food unsafe.

  • better titled as "exoatmospheric"
