@GerryLayton1 Love Me, I'm A Liberal is clearly written from a leftist perspective. Phil was a socialist, and at least for some time defined himself as a revolutionary leftist. He was disillusionised with many things, but where he belonged politically seems kind of obvious.
Phil was Bi-polar - something not so well understood in his day. People who suffer from this have a higher suicide rate than average. He was also disillusioned with the politics of the day. He found himself alienated from both the left and right. His distain for the Liberal/Left comes through clearly in "Love me, I'm A Liberal", while his disgust with the militarist Right is underscored by "We're The Cops Of The World". (Nothing changes much ...)
Sorry Phil, you had a voice like a dolphin on this cut. Gordon Lightfoot did much more with it, but you deserve credit for the outstanding melody and lyrics. Plus, Julie Felix isn't hard to look at!
I think Dyan tried to make ammends to Phil by attending the Salvadore Allende concert, the only way he could. We know that all creative people suffer from demons that they themselves can't understand. Some can control them, Some end their lives, some live on tormented.
@marystrand Dylan wasn't kind to Phil but had nothing to do with Phil Och's suicide. He has long writers block for some years and was mugged and lost some vocal range? I'm not sure.. his voice doesn't sound as good as it usually did and this was 68 way before he was mugged. But the real reason was Phil was a full-blown manic depressive in the mid 1970s and he drank a lot drank a lot and was in bad bad shape and killed himself with a small rifle .

Phil didn't use a small rifle to kill himself. He chose a more sure method.

WONDERFUL. SIMPLY WONDERFUL.But here we go again - why the hell did the man have to kill himself? Was it really Dylan´s fault?
Mary from Sweden. Saw him here in 1969... he looked so loneley, he had big boots on though it was a warm summer & we all wore sandals...
