Before Tuesday's State of the Union, Rep. Gabriel Giffords got a standing ovation from colleagues and a hug from President Barack Obama. The congresswoman announced this weekend that she is resigning from office to concentrate on her recovery. (Jan. 24)

It is so hurtful to read other Americans comment so rudely on a government official who was shot in the head and survived. God forbid that happens to any of you guys. Obama is not going to end America what is going to kill America is the hate Americans have for there fellow Americans. How can we be the best country and can not even get along. Just remember God does not like ugly and hate is as ugly as it gets. I just want to say God Bless America.

Why can't people get off of their political soapboxes and cynicism to recognize what was truly a beautiful moment. Even in an election year, during what becomes a very partisan speech, colleagues with diverse worldviews can stand together and applaud someone they genuinely care about. Giffords was shot because she was a representative for the government. Any of her colleagues gathered in that room could be so targeted. That was an authentic moment of community. Stupid comments can't sully that.

What a beautiful moment caught on video, when our President hugs this woman! THIS WOMAN, has got to be one of the most inspiring people in America. I realize that there are many others like her in our world, but because of her position, we have been blessed, as a nation, to be able to follow her recovery. Amazing woman!
