Political scientist Shanto Iyengar and media critic Amy Mitchell argue that Republican appeals to "American values" - a successful strategy in recent elections - may not be as effective in 2008.

  • Not only that, but the so-called "values voters" just don't get it. They think politics can save culture, but that's impossible. They seem to have this weird notion that they OWN America, that only their views are acceptable, that they have to be the guardians of society. Well, Reverend, did anyone ever tell you that this is a DIVERSE society, where lots of people have differing views and backgrounds?

    We're not a "Christian nation." We're a diverse nation.

  • Besides, why does it matter what religion we hold, so long as we're still good people?

  • Values? Democrats ran Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, pushing loans on people that couldn't afford them, blocking competition, hiding the problem, blocking efforts to increase oversight, Obama & his friends benefiting financially millions of dollars in bonuses & campaign contributions. Result: 700 billion dollars in burdens piled on the backs of our children so Democrats can save their ass. It has nothing to do with religion. People who love their country do not want to see it destroyed economically.

  • Banning gay marriage and denying people their individual rights are NOT values; they're ANTI-values! They're irrational. We need to extend freedom to the greatest reasonable extent in this country, not use silly arguments rooted in "natural" law or "god" to make law without any other basis in fact or logic. I mean, is gays getting married REALLY gonna affect you and your family 10 or 20 years down the road? I highly doubt it.

  • obama, mccain, theyre policies are really all the same. They arent addressing privacy, the deficits, the federal reserve, and our interventionist foreign policy.

Vote third party for a real change.

  • Democrats and liberals NEED to take back values. They need to remind voters that WE have values just as much as those insane Republicans who wanna deny gay people their rights and women their right to choose. WE care about, too! We're not a bunch of heathen child sacrificers. We're human beings!

  • With Palin republican on the ticket, and McCain's voting record, I think people will realize who the ones with the better values are.

    No worries.

People are waking up, slowly but surely.
