Part of Dr. Filsell's day-long performance of all 6 Vierne symphonies on July 9, 2010. The instrument is 44 ranks of outstanding French-ness, built in 1994 by the Lively-Fulcher organ works.

Vierne wanted to evoke the gargoyles & grotesques that perch on the roof-edge of Notre Dame de Paris, & he succeeded quite nicely.

I normally edit in a few pictures to make these videos a little more visually stimulating, but in this instance, it's fascinating to watch Dr. Filsell's hands literally dancing on the manuals.

St. Patrick's in the City if the oldest Catholic parish in the nation's capital, pre-dating the formation of the District of Columbia.

  • @TheMysticalOrgan I think I found the audio, but not the video. Maybe one of these years, I'll get around to editing some more. Life has a way of getting in the way.

  • Keep 'em coming.................PLEASE!!!

  • @pjdonagh , I'm working, I'm working !! ;-) These things are a bitch to edit when I'm trying to combine separately-recorded audio & video tracks.

  • dix mille fois trop rapide, la rapidité avec le retard du pédalier fait croiser le rythme, aucun intérêt

  • very very beautiful, thanks

  • He actually plays it on the fast side: Vierne's metronome is 100 to the dotted eighth, and Filsell is playing about 108-110.

  • Excellent presentation! Filsell had little trouble keeping this scherzo's speed up, and the registration used emphasized some of the solo parts rather nicely.
