From June 15-24, the Iowa Wesleyan College Choir will be touring Italy and Austria.
"To have the opportunity not only to sing in some of the most important churches and cathedrals in the world, but also to experience other cultures, see great works of art, and meet people with completely different backgrounds are experiences the students will never forget," Director of Choral Activities for Iowa Wesleyan, Dr. Jamie Spillane said.
As part of the tour, the choir will be performing in European cathedrals and churches, some centuries old, according to IWC Director of Public Relations, Martha Potts-Bell.
Scheduled on the tour is an evening performance in Florence, Italy. While in the city, the choir will visit Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Academy of Fine Arts. The choir is expected to view Michelangelo's "David" as well.
While in Vienna, the choir will perform at the Melk Abbey. In Vienna the choir will also stop at "The Sound of Music" church, Mondsee Church as well as Schonbrunn Palace, and Esterhazy Palace, where musician Franz Joseph Haydn spent most of his life.
Also on the agenda is the city of Salzburg, home of Mozart, where they will tour Mozart-related sites and perform an evening concert.
Simply beautiful. What a stirring sound. I'm having spine "tingles."
