Staxxon's vertical folding and nesting technology allows up to five (5) empty 20' or 40' dry ISO containers to be folded, nested and moved by ship, rail or truck in the same space as 1 container while maintaining core structural integrity and adhering to ISO/IMO standards. Container fleet owner/operators save money on back-haul (repositioning) moves involving empty containers.

Neat idea, though I have doubt the containers are sturdy enough. Staxxon will have to prove that these containers have at least the same load capacities as the regular containers, and that the mechanics won't jam up after a few years of rough handling and salty air.
At least the container folds vertically reducing the risk of having the container collapse if it's at the bottom of the stack on the ship.

The design for the product was developing using SolidWorks. The animation was done using luxoology's modo and other tools. Here's a link to an article about the design/production process. You and read more about the design/production process at our web site - staxxon dot com.

@EricTheO1 The design uses gaskets for the front panel/sill and rear doors/sill that have been tested extensively in a lab environment. Field testing will determine if the we need to consider other gasket methods or materials. The horizontal beams function as built-in strapping or lashing when the containers are nested. This addresses a safety concern that has been raised with earlier folding/nesting container designs by skilled labor at ports/terminals.

What about it's ability to protect the contents from weather and the elements? It seems those horizontal rods/tubes are an achilles heal.

@skinkie - Seems that Staxxon, Holland Container Innovation, Compact Container Systems and Foltainer are all fans of using steel. Maybe there are niche trade lanes and very light cargo that would make sense for moves with a composite container like Cargoshell. At Staxxon, we think special composite material could make sense one day in container floors vs. plywood. When and where should we schedule a competitive "battle" between Staxxon, HCI, Foltainer, Compact and Cargoshell? ;--)

@tstitt if you watch the website hcinnovations dot nl you will see this thing is also completely build out of steel. There is one inside our building as prototype. So no special materials at all.

Thanks for the comments. @AGrandt Yup, proving maintenance and repair costs for containers with Staxxon technology are not significantly greater than standard containers is a key piece of evidence we will test during non-commercial trials. @Skinkie Cargoshell's innovative approach requires new materials (composite/plastic), new workflow (seems to use a construction crane to fold/unfold) at ports/terminals. Staxxon's approach uses steel and doesn't change the workflow at ports/terminals/depots.

So why is this vertical principle better than the ideas from Holland Container Innovations? The 5 versus 4?
