@SparklingMilk Um 3 peasants could get taken out by a dismounted knight in real life too. Those guys don't mess around. As for the spearmen vs the general's bodyguard, well that may have been a stretch. Each nation trained their cavalry and elites differently, like if they were Byzantine cavalry, then yeah they'd kick the spearmen's trash.

@StellandBlood That is true, they certainly had it easy compared to the European states and others. Actually it was more of a surprise that they only had a single civil war due to the myriad of states in the US and their differences. But my knowledge of pre-20th century America is lacking so I cannot really debate.

@StellandBlood Of course, the Soviet Union's WW2 record in the West has been far too under-developed for my liking. Of course it was only recently that the bulk of Soviet war archives has been fully revealed to the public. But let's not forget the value of American Lend-Lease, without those stud-breakers, trucks and spam, Soviet war-making would not have been possible.

@StellandBlood True that, many, many well-educated people tend to forget that without France, the United States would never had beaten Britain. Also the Founding Fathers were the product of the Enlightenment period and had gotten their inspirations with the many revolutionary figures in Europe. But we can then link from France to China with the sino-centric thought of the period as well. Everything can be linked back to surprising origins.

I would say the most influential power in the last 300 years was France,more than capitalism,and industrialism,its there that the foundations of every modern state and democracy are found,in the last 100 years,I would say the Soviet Union,followed by the USA,and Germany.
-
Still today Russia/other former soviet states suffer the scars of WWII,despite all that the soviets endured the antagonism of the whole capitalist world for more 40 years,ending on top in the main engagements,and still today that union could exist,despite it couldn´t avoid democratic reforms.
-
Soviet Union was giant however a very undeveloped country in 1920,and rose to become the first/second most influential power,it was by far the main responsible for WWII victory(main event of the XX century) destroying 90% of the Axis forces,however losing 1/3 of its population,the most able,and having more than half of its infraestructure destroyed.

@romanlegions Depends on the perspective,USA had the easy life once its independence was given in a pledge by external help,receiving tones of immigrants (including high quality immigration),many new ideas,adopting the best of that time Europe,decades of peace,interrupted only by a civil war of 4 years,increasingly hegemonic in regional terms,the only possible menace would be the overstretched British Empire,if it chose to place most their military resources in Canada,which was very hard.

Now I need to find @liamdudeeee 's comment.
PS: Still searching for it.

@Adamhistorybuff Prime-minister excuse me
@liamdudeeee R U FRICKING KIDDING ME????? I agree that medieval 2 was a better game, however u switched the games around. for example, the generals bodyguard unit could take on a unit of spearmen 3 times bigger and win easily. 3 peasants in medieval would get owned by a dismounted knight. Empire and Napoleon are WAYY more realistic than medieval or rome. not just bc of the eye candy
