Haltering Canela has been an ongoing evolution. I thought I had him figured out, but he still was not happy with how I was haltering, probably because it involved a mid-line catch at the neck. He appears to have issues about hands near the neck. He probably thinks I am going to grab him. Since we had already done some clicker training to get him to put his face straight into a halter, I decided to try a full frontal haltering method with him. He seems to be comfortable with it. Canela lives with is pal, Gypsy, in Homer, Alaska.
Gypsy is the easiest fellow to halter. Canela is now improving with this new method. I must love that he now lets me do it wherever we are in the pen.
