This is an extract from an ALPHA-course (a course in christianity) with Nicky Gumble. He talks about how you practically can proof that Jesus of Nazareth is Messiah, the son of God.

This video is quite old (somewhere in the beginning of the 90's) so the setting and the fashion is quite cheesy, but I recommend You to listen carefully to what he has to say - it's very intresting.

(For all you non-swedes - sorry about the swedish subtitles..)

  • @SOAS007 - I speak to people and they are absolutely convinced Paul was a real person. I mean, based on what? The New Testament is not real history and that is the only book in which he appears. He was supposed to be this adventuring, bombastic character with friends in the highest of places and he is not mentioned once in history. It's clearly bullshit.

I'll PM you with more extensive details.

  • @Franknarfable "The life of Paul is also based on Josephus. " thats an interesing assertion, not heard it b4. Josephus' work has deffo been doctored by interested parties. Acts of apostles was authored by the same as lukes gospel. But contains the same story of Paul's ( supenatural vision on the way to damascas). as in galations. The stories are very contridictory, but which came first? You have my interest, because your claim is unusal, but not as crazy as it seems.

  • @SOAS007 - If it's simply events they use then the Pauline Epistles where definitely back-dated, because that would be easy to do.

You are one of the few people getting this, thankfully.

The life of Paul is also based on Josephus. They have so many similarities and shared experiences that it's a joke. One is based on the other, which means one came first and one is fictional. Who is fictional? My money is on Paul.

  • @Franknarfable "I cannot find anyone who can explain why they cannot be back-dated in this way" The dating of the books of the nt is not an exact science, but there are many factors that schoars studying this can agree on with certain evidence and assumptions. Bart ehram is an expert in this field. I will too look how they come to this conclusion. Sometimes there are events describe within them 2nd peter e.g. which put them after a certain time.

  • @SOAS007 - If the gospels where written by the Romans and back-dated, which they where, then the same must apply to the Pauline Epistles. I think the gospels where written before the Pauline Epistles.

I cannot find anyone who can explain why they cannot be back-dated in this way. The same people insist that it is impossible they could have been back-dated.

    I don't see the problem.

  • @Franknarfable "The New Testament was written by the Romans" apart from 6 Pauline ones? maybe 6 from 27 aint bad :-)

  • @SOAS007 - You want to see the typology between Jesus and Titus if you think that. Recent study has pretty much proven the ministry of Jesus to be based on the Jewish War.

The New Testament was written by the Romans.

  • This is a powerful double claim from Jesus: first, that He pre-existed His human birth and was actually alive and present (as God) before Abraham; second, that His title was “I am” -- which was the same title used for Jehovah God in Exodus 3:14. His listeners again got the point, and picked up stones to execute Him!

  • @3pigproDUCKions "read Matthew or mark or luke it has all the answers." but the other gospel, has a different theology regarding Jesus. These four gospels, written anonamously, about half a century later than the events, have varying views. Read any story in any gospel, make notes about what happened. Then the same story in another gospel. They are incredibly unreliable.!
