It has to do with a Japanese legend that you probably wouldn't care to know about.
The game isn't so much scary, but more about startling the poor player to death with things jumping out at you, creepy images, and sudden bangs.
And also, they don't kill random people. They only kill people that went into the house.
And the reason they came back is because they died in extreme sadness, or rage.
They wanted revenge.

Okay, I had a hard time following the story my first time too. Its about a man who kills his wife because shes been cheating on him and kills his son and cat as well. Theyre emotion are attacthed to the real world and become ghosts (or yurei) and people who enter the house they were killed in encounter the curse, and well, the spirits go to kill them. Ya (holy crap 2 months ago you said this lol)

Ok, I still don't understand is so damn scary about a burping,joint-problem mother and her cat-hybrid son. NOT SCARY AT ALL, Dead Space is a scary game, The Grudge is not. The story doesn't even make sense. The husband kills the wife and son so they come back to kill the shit out of random people they find chilling on the street? What the flying f*** is that?
