The typical American loves meat, potatoes and corn. Pot Pie comes under this heading. The concept of fresh veggies steamed, tenderized in a skillet, roasted in the oven, arranged raw on a plate with dip was introduced partly by Julia Childs, an American in France. As a young mother I watched her videos and cooked veggies as she did in a skillet using the freshest ingredients. I have received compliments just on my simple vegetable dishes. Somehow by a miracle, my favorite daughter took up the love of cooking. She enjoys cooking on a daily basis, planning ahead for each meal with relish and excitement. Her husband says that she can sell a dog to a cat. My son loves to cook as well.
