It's hard to get on a hotshot crew without experiance unless you know someone on the crew and alot crew don't take students. the cards are stacked against you. I would suggest starting your first season on an engine, fuels or a duce crew. If you get on an engine that has a hotshot crew on district you can try to fill in with the crew. If they like you they may pick you up next season. that's the most common way to get your foot in the door.

@pavethepeaks I am currently looking into applying for the US forest service as a handcrew member. I am more interested in the hotshot crew. What are the qualifications for becoming a hotshot member besides the physical fitness part? I am currently in college and want to work over the summer for 3 months.

@Blakesey the band name is "Brody Douglas Hunt And His Phantom Thunder Wranglers". The album is smoke and mirrors. I got the album from a friend form Ashville NC. Brody Douglss Hunt is pretty underground so it might be hard to find him on the web.
