Call it dub-pop, call it minimalist, call it noise or just don’t call it anything. The trance inducing exercise in rhythmic cohesion known as Fabulous Diamonds is hard to truly define, but appeals to all who listen as they are caught in the hypnotic space created by Jarrod Zlatic’s delayed keyboard manipulation and Nisa Venerosa’s calculated drums and vocal chants. Their fragile and controlled performances leave the audience locked in static attention with their heads bobbing in peaceful unison. Dingbat talks to the pair about their formation, the definition of their sound, the Melbourne music scene and the recording of their debut album with Ben Andrews (My Disco). Their performance was filmed at Mojo’s Bar during their recent visit to Perth on August 24th, 2008.
