This was an historic theater. William Fox, of Fox Studios, wanted a grand movie palace for his thriving chain. He commissioned architect C. Howard Crane to design this 5,000 seat wonder in 1926. Many credit the Preservation efforts at the nearby, Fox Theater with kicking off Woodward Avenue's revival. Much thanks goes to Mike Illitch of Little Caesar's fame for making the restoration possible.
I too am thankful to Little Caesars!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the top and grand is right, just look at all the statuary, yet soo many of the gems of the past our cultural masterpieces were destroyed they are soo rare yet at one time as commonplace as strip malls. yet they spared no expense to build them and they look soo much better then today. though I see hints of the art deco and modern being put back into new theaters they build, instead of the grungy industrial looking ones of the malls in the 80's.
Also thank you Little Cesaers for the save.
