The Pilium-gladius combination with professional soldiers came later, with the reforms of Gaius Marius. Cannae was fought with the citizen soldier armies as organized by Camillius. Young men as skirmishers were Hastiari, mature men well equipped were Principes, and old men, few in number but heavily equipped, asTriiari.

heh, I'm not sure Ben has the Narration voice down for something like this. That said, I'd definitely have actually WATCHED the show more had he done it.

I don't have the full episode. Ben didn't end up doing the series. However, the episode that was broadcast can be purchased at the History Channel store with a different actor doing the commentary.
