NOTICE: THIS FORM OF SOFTMODDING THE NINTENDO WII IS FOR NTSC-U CONSOLES ONLY!! NTSC-U IS THE UNITED STATES.

NTSC-U = U.S.
PAL = Europe/Australia
NTSC-J = Japan

Don't know? Look at your Wii Settings menu that shows you your Wii version, if it has a U by the version label, like 4.2U, it's U.S., E is Europe and Australia, J is Japan.

~~~~How to Softmod Your Wii With ANY Version!~~~~
1) First, MAKE sure you have an SD card and a copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl, Google "Smash Stack WiiBrew", click first result, and download and install by reading instructions from that wiki page.
2) Once you do that, the Smash Stack will load an app that will lead through the process, just install the Homebrew Channel and DVDx.
3) Obviously since you are a rookie if you are reading this, you don't need BootMii. If you become even more experienced with Wii Homebrew and know more about it, then you could make your choice if you want it or not. I personally don't use it.
4) Now, once it's done, your Wii should return to the Wii Menu. Once it does that, it is now time to get some homebrew!! Let's get an emulator! Lets say we want... A Nintendo 64 emulator!
5) Okay, now go ahead and Google "Homebrew Browser WiiBrew Wiki" Click first result and Download. The link will show how to install the Homebrew Browser.
6) Okay! You have it installed, and now you want to use it!
7) Go plug in your SD card, and go to the Homebrew Channel from the Wii Menu.
You should see the Homebrew Browser on the list. Select it and click Load!
8) It should go through a little linux/cmd like prompt, follow it's first run questions.
Once it's up and running, go to the Emulators tab, then scroll down and find Wii64, it shouldn't be too far down, then click it and click Download.
9) It should be downloading straight to your Wii OMG!!! Okay, it doesn't take too long, so don't worry! :P
10) Once it's done, press the B button on your Wii Remote, then press the Home button, then click "Return to Loader."
11) The Homebrew Channel should return, and Wii64 should be installed and ready to go!
12) But HOLD ON!! You need what ALL emulators need... ROMS!!
13) Go to your favorite ROM site and get some roms!
14) Now remember, this is an emulator on a different console, so don't expect what you get from your monster alienware type PC...
15) Once you have your ROM, go access your SD Card on your PC.
16) Go to the folder called wii64 in the root. If there isn't one, MAKE ONE!
17) Then just put your roms in the roms folder. Once again, make one if there isn't one.
**If you didn't have a wii64 folder at the root in the first place, make a folder inside the wii64 folder called saves.
18) Now put it back into the Wii.
19) Go to the Homebrew channel, and load Wii64, just like how you loaded the Homebrew Browser.
20) You are now on the emulator screen, select "Load Rom."
21) You have 3 options, since your roms are on the SD card, select "Load from SD."
22) And LOOK! It's your ROMS, with 2 sample roms called fcube and wii64.
**Fcube is a little fun minigame, Wii64 is just like Mupen64's floating logo rom.
23) Just load up your Super Mario 64 or whatever aannddd...
YOU are NOW enjoying your NEW softmodded Wii!!
ENJOY EVERYBODY!!!!!
  • I advise you not to do anything to your wii as it will result in you breaking your wii
  • @Noobztastic Only if you do something stupid, softmodding and adding emulators are perfectly safe, I would advise not to install any wads...
  • will a flashdrive or sdhd card work for getting the homebrew channel
  • @shadowlinx800 Flashdrive, no. SDHC, Maybe, but probably a no. You could buy a cheap 256MB SD card and it would work perfectly. But I don't recommend it because that's barely any memory at all, through my eyes that is, but normal SD cards are getting cheaper and cheaper, I'm using an SD card that was intended to be used for Wii Rock Band 2 DLC that I bought from Walmart's website.
  • weres da mii chanel ?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>>?>?>>
  • @Jocelyn90210 I moved it to the farthest to the right. If you don't know how to move channels, just hold A+B on a channel and you can drag it to any empty space.
