Final approach into Gatwick from Accra/Ghana after a severly bumpy flight through a 200mph jet stream. listen to passengers clap after touch down from pure relief to have made it back safe. Notice full flaps extension on this Britannia 767-300, and the all speed aileron between the inboard and outboard flaps augmenting the slow speed ailerons at the tip of the wings to help keep the aircraft on the localisor (runway centre line). Also notice how both the air and ground spoilers arm as soon as the wheels touch the runway. They are activated by switches in the landing gear assembley which signal the aircraft is on the ground. The air spoilers kill the wing lift so the weight of the airfraft is put on the wheels to help braking and the ground spoilers just create drag to help slow the airfraft down.
