NS 234 rolls east on the Petersburg Beltline with a nice lashup: an ex-Conrail C40-8W and two Union Pacific SD70Ms. The first two cages on the first two cars look like the cages the dinosaurs were in at the beginning of the 1993 film Jurassic Park LOL.

  • Haha, I've always liked the paint scheme. The sad thing is, all of us railfans have to chew on the fact that pretty soon all of the remaining Conrail/Conrail Quality painted units on CSXT and NS are going to be in CSXT and NS paint. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment!

    freight trains in my area on the CN line go sometimes really slow and sometimes really fast!

    do you catch any good graffiti on the boxcars??

  • Sometimes the containers have graffiti on them, I haven't really noticed too much on the intermodals. And most of the trains on this line really move along. Track speed is 50 for most freights, except for intermodals, which are allowed 60. There are no Amtrak trains on this line, which I love. Trains do have to slow down on the "Old Line", which goes through the city of Petersburg and is mostly used for westbounds. Most eastbounds take the Petersburg Beltline, which is the line shown here.

  • A little more history for ya...the double track line splits just past MP N75 on the line, and joins again around MP N88. There were once CPLs on this line, the ones here were "approach-lit", meaning that they would only come on when eastbounds passed it, or before westbounds came around the curve just behind me in the video. Today, there are Safetran three-color "absolute signals."

  • As for the absolute signal indications, yellow is the neutral color, meaning nothing can come in either direction. If it changes to red, then you have an eastbound coming. If it changes to green, then you're lucky, because you have a westbound coming, and as I said before, westbounds usually take the Old Line. The time that the signal indication changes to the time that the train actually gets there can vary widely. I've waited from 30 minutes all the way to over an hour before something comes.

  • I'm pretty sure I just watched this same train but from a different angle lol. Nice catch with the run through power. I saw Canadian Pacific power at the same spot a little over a month ago. And I filmed a train with an Oakway SD60 here. this past summer.

    in my area there are both passenger and freights that arrive on the CN line.

    we have a CP line too, only freights go on that line. and unfortunately, they go kinda fast on the CP line.

    we have pretty good graff on the freight cars.

    intermodels have some too but not as much as the autoracks and boxcars.

    those ones have the best stuff on em`.
