Regarding the question at the end; it can be divided into two population segments. Most academic economists don't care for irrationality because it is outside of the model, which by definition is rational. Most investors, professional, otherwise and even wall street, have long followed very irrational patters, whether knowingly or not.
I hope you don't become so attached to the concept of irrationality that you lose the position of observer that you found youself in by way of the accident. I enjoy observations that aren't contrived, you've shared a good handful of those. Thanks
