We had a Woolco in my town, they had everything you could want. I remember the snack bar, they sold popcorn, and hot dogs. I remember sharing my popcorn with a little boy in front of me at the checkout stand. But all the Woolco's and Woolworths are now gone, Thanks to shitty WalMart.
I used to work at Woolco in the Southland Mall in Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA. I was a sales associate in the cameras, records & computers department. I used to sell Commodore 64s and Colecovisions. I remember when the 45 of "We Are The World" came in. We got 30 copies and they sold out in less than an hour. I was employee #1437. Oh, to be young and in retail sales again...
@realliveclaude Like the two stores in St. John's, NL. Or the one in Orleans (east of Ottawa). Or in Halifax or Saskatoon. All because Crap-Mart wants to build larger stores and make them into Stupidcenters.
Those freezers were so plentiful in the early 80's, and ended up getting damn near banned becasue little kids kept playing in them, and suffocating.
But I remember shopping at Woolco, the week before they closed. I got a Coleco Donkey Kong table top game, A GI Joe Figure (Ranger), and a Pac-Man Fever cassette for about $15.
Woolco was a cool store to shop at the time. With the downfall of Woolworth's (another one which mark my childhood), Wal-Mart took over... However now, not too many original Woolco stores stand these days...

I miss $1.44 days. Woolco along with Eatons and Simpsons were my three favourite department stores to go to.

Yeah. So much for the "Canadian" institution. I have a lot of good memories of shopping at Woolco.

Yeah especially for such an ugly looking appliance.
