  • I'm not sure. he doesn't seem to be improving much this school year.

  • He's so sweet...it sounds like my house w/your son and the football game in the background. I didn't understand the open mouth thing.

  • Joey only eats Cinnamon Graham Crackers and Pediasure. Because he doesn't chew, his jaw muscles are very weak, which makes his speech hard to umderstand. "Open Mouth" will help strengthen his jaws muscles and hopefully lead to eating more foods. At least this is what we think will happen.

  • @MegaZacu That is a ceramic doll replica of my wife in her wedding dress. She is even holding the same flowers. Her aunt made it. It is in a glass case. I think the angle and lighting make it look weird. It is very pretty.

  • hey how is your son Joey doing?

  • Hi;

    Wonderful video. Have you tried (or thought of trying) the vantage or dynavox? Our son can understand us very well but an apraxia makes it difficult for him to speak. The vantage gives him a chance to request and respond in a way that is understandable to the rest of the world.

  • Sorry about my spelling errors. =)

  • Another thought is my son is VERY VERY literal. Maybe he would respond better to "what is your name?" "what is mom's name?" By saying my name is? he may be waiting for you to fill in your name. Just a thought! =) I always had to remind nyself that just because they are speech delayed doesn't mean they are less intelligent, but on the contrary...very SMART!

  • Does Joey have apraxia of speech along with his autism? Apraxia makes it VERY difficult for children with autism to speak. My son has apraxia w/autism. I'm not sure about the whole open mouth thing. I think he may would benefit from a speech therapis that specializes in apraxia. My son went through an apraxia program and it helped. Does he attend a good school program for kids with autism? Do they do things like blow bubbles, a whistle, and visual cues to help him say sounds?
