My father has prostate cancer stage 3 and in the lymph nodes area. he is on hormone therapy and his current psa is 0.33 and a gleason score of 7. Is bone scan necessary for him? thanks! he takes one twice a yr.

hello... what is PSA? so u mean to say its better to check first the PSA before having a bone scaN?... ive learned a LOT!! thank u.. that was so interesting.... u just widen my knowledge about it.....

The PSA stands for prostate specific antigen which is a protein produced by normal and prostate cancer cells. Almost always, the PSA will rise before the bone scan changes and when the PSA IS below 10, the odds of having cancer in the bones is less than 1/300.
