No tribute is sufficient for these men,
-
my uncle died in 1987 after he helped to extinguish the fire by flying a russian military fire-fighting helicopter. I never got to know him.
-
the firemen didn't know
-
@zipacna1980: No. Not true at all.
-
@aapinator: No, that never happened. Two people inside the reactor building were killed immediately, another may have died of a heart attack. Six of the first firefighters on the scene received lethal doses, but they didn't start dying until the 10th of May and thereafter. 22 of the plant op personnel, including three who actually looked into the reactor core, were also fatally irradiated, the first dying on the 7th of May.

who were these brave pilots? that is the question struck down in the prime of their lives for the greater good of the Russian people and mankind!
-
May God rest their souls.
-
They did...
-
They helped, but the effects spread throughout, the nuclear particles even reached Britain, but clearly not enough reached to cause a fallout or anythin.
-
I didn't know about that, I said what my guide told me last Friday.. If it's true what you say, those men are real heroes!!
true heroes of the world! stopping the spread of radioactivity, they did their duty

The pilots knew that they would die too. Also the 36 Firemen knew they would die from the consequences of this operation. If those heroes wouldn't have done their duty, the catastrophe would have cost even more lifes
