Located in beautiful Port Orchard, WA, Bremerton Motorsports Park offers a wide variety of racing venues. From club racing to Autox and drags, whatever dicipline you subscribe to, you'll find it here.
This was a particularly cold event in the beginning of February. The morning session had fog the likes of which even Londoners, or the residents of Mordor would fear. Luckily it cleared for the afternoon, making for at least visible, if not frigid racing. What a way to kick off the season!
The course was a tight and twisty creation of the UWFSAE team. It had a few very important and tricky corners leading into long straights, which if ignored would lead to a loss in time. The sloloms and offset gates leading to the finish caught out many drivers of all experience levels, I can boast to this fact as I had six cones on my first run! Ouch.
The car is my 1999 Mazda Miata 10AE. It's been modified to the limit of the SCCA competition rules with revalved shocks, a Flyin' Miata swaybar and exhaust, as well as lightweight SSR wheels shod in Hoosier tires. Today we were testing the freshly installed swaybar, and I have to say I am overjoyed with the results.
This was my best run with a clean scratch time of 48.569. This was good enough for 6th place in the Top Times list (only the mod cars were faster). Indexed this put me in 2nd place for the day with an indexed time of 40.360. Not bad for the first event of the year!
A big thanks to James Wege, who agreed to co-drive with me this day. Without his help, I'd have been left out in the cold.
Here's a link to the results for the day: http://www.wwscc.org/event_results/2009/slush1.html
Thanks! I'm in love with this car.
Are you still spec miata-ing?
