Why do Americans treat capitalism as a religion ?

One of the central purposes of a government is to act in communal interest when aggregate individual action conflicts with everyones communal interest.

Individuals and corporations are now paying off debt as fast as possible and hoarding cash. But it is in the communal interest that demand does not completely collapse.

Government spending is going to be a lot more effective than tax cuts which are likely to be saved rather than spent.

You extremist right wing Republican never cite the extraordinary theft and waste that occurs in America's biggest bureaucracy, the Pentagon. The US spends twice a much as the next 20 largest countries combined.

Or is it that $800 billion a year for handouts to the arms industry and thousands of useless generals is not considered "pork" in the Republican world?

Enron in partnership with UNOCAL planned to build a pipeline from the Caspian Sea oil fields to the Indian subcontinent. Enron built a THREE BILLION DOLLAR power plant in Maharastra state to be fed by that energy. They even met with the government of the country they had to cross and they met them right here in Houston in 1997. There is an article in the Houston Chronicle about it. WHO was that government?? That's right...THE TALIBAN who objected to doing business with ENRON.

I think a better way is to remove the CAP on Social Security contributions. As a percentage of income, the RICH pay very, VERY little for their Social Security benefits. Also WHY do large corporations only pay income tax on PROFITS when citizen pay tax on INCOME? I would pay a LOT LESS if I could deduct clothing, car, food and all other expenses including a THREE MARTINI LUNCH. The ONLY deduction that I have left is my mortgage but THEY get to write off EVERYTHING except political contribution

Wendy and Phil Graham created the laws that made it legal for hedgefund managers to create fictitous entities, sell them in bulk to investors, creating financial the turmoil (for everyone EXCEPT the likes of Graham, Cornyn and hedgefund managers swimming in ill gotten gains) that the american people must clean up for generations to come. If drug dealers and prostitutes are in jail, what in the WORLD is this man still doing roaming the halls of our congress?

What he means is that men like himself can continue to suck away the resources and money from the american people, stash it in offshore accounts, and when the country collapses, fly off to a desert island with their ill gotten gains. This man does not work for "the people". He is of by and for corporate interests period!! And we can see, in the last three months, how well that works out for everyone.

I have an idea!! Lets tax people for being republican. That way they can dig us out of the mess that they've gotten us into. AND that way we won't have to resort to ropes around any necks and mob mentality. This man has a LOT of nerve!!

Why do people keep saying that a citizen spends money better than the government? I see so many people who are unwise with their money.

Isn't it better to pool money to enrich everyone's lives? Society is complex. We're not farmers in the 1800s living on individual parcels of land.

Most of the Texas conservatives INCLUDING CORNYN owe their success to ENRON MONEY. Ken Lay was BUSH's NUMBER ONE SUPPORTER in 2000 and paid for the BUSH inaugeration. Cornyn, Tom Delay, Perry,Hutchinson and ESPECIALLY arch-conservative Phil Gramm ALL owe their success to ENRON STOLEN MONEY. Gramm's wife, Wendy, was making a MILLION A YEAR as an ENRON DIRECTOR. Gramm, as head of the Senate Banking committee wrote the ENRON LOOPHOLE which has allowed corporations to LIE about their finances.
