Well, you're kind of right. The Renesis is the engine in all of the RX-8s, and Mazda has made no "new" one. They have updated it slowly in the later models but it's still the same engine.

@19danflo you probably had the 05 or under i think it was. Ive done quite a bit of research on this car and mazda says that in recent years theyve released a new "Renesis" engine. This engine has been updated and fixed the seals and has a better exaust seal. Correct me if i am wrong its been a while since i did my research i may not remember everything. Just do some of your own research as well youll find it intresting. They have plenty of rx8 forums online.

@Manoo62 Its a rotary engine, made completely diffrent from a piston therefore the liters are irrelevent. Look up the rotary engine on youtube. The combustion is very different. You just have to do some research.

@UthurPendragon Thats probably because its actually a 3.9L engine the 1.3L tag is just a gimmick.

There are 2 main issues that if they are well taken care of, than the RX8 is very reliable. 1st and most important is that during the winter-time, it is crucial for someone not to switch on the engine and take off immediately with high revs, but warm it up a little about 3-4 minutes and then go, with middle range revving at least for the first K. This is because this engine must have its oil warmed up 100% due to the high rev capacity of the Rotary.

2:10 its a fucking rotary...

This is the thing you know, its just these guys' opinions. Sure they have loads of experience, a lot of knowledge, but they aren't perfect. I always take their words with a big grain of salt, but sometimes i find them to be just plain wrong. Its really mostly because they dont do the most controlled testings, they just put their cars through the paces and go with what they're feeling, a great mindset if you want to buy a nice car, but maybe not the nicest for you.

Good for u.. S2000 is also one of my favourite cars too. And I'm sorry to hear abt your loss. But that doesn't mean RX8 is a lousy car I feel. The newer models are more reliable and better. Sometimes, it comes down to the year of the model and a bit of luck. Having said that, rotary isn't meant for everybody. My friend's civic i-vtec engine also have problems in the 1st year.

true.. it does drink petrol, but that's the characteristic of rotary engine. And somemore, it's a sports car so got to give and take. I mean it wasn't designed to be fuel effficient anyway.

The second one its the oil level. It needs to be checked out from time to time, because the Rotary engine consumes it quickly, due to the high revving capacity and the very high temperature that this engine produces. I have an 2006 RX8 (231 hp), I do these 2 things right and everything runs smoothly 100%. Sometimes something can go wrong from just simply bad luck, but these 2 things are crucial to the RX8's reliability.
