Hang gliding with Dave Broyles using a scooter towing system on a chilly December day. Shot with my HD GoPro using r2 setting (720p).

  • Never thought about hang gliding.... Sounds like a cool sport. how much does it cost to start out/learn? And how safe is it, do you have safety equipment?

  • @ArmaEditor It's pretty safe. Statistically safer than a motorcyle. Used equipment is cheap. You can get a used glider for about $1500 -$2000. A used harness goes for about $450-600. Training ranges from intro lessons $100 to full certification or H2 about $750 - $1000. I would start off with the $100 intro lesson at a school because you get to use their equipment and see if you like it.

  • how come i never see gliders with dihydro?

wouldnt you want that for stability? or are the dynamics to diferent from a plane?

  • @multigunlover All modern hang gliders have a dihedral angle to the wing making them more stable in roll. Beginning gliders are very stable due to the dihedral shape of the wing.

  • @wmadams1 sorry for some reason my computers spell check made it dihydro i dont even know what that means haha

but you knew what i meant. i make some types of flying machines and all but one of many designs ive constructed has a dehedral

so its odd to see anything with little to know dihedral to the design

    thanks for replying

  • @multigunlover Another aspect that improves the stability of a modern hang glider is it's flexed wing design. Flex wing improves stability compared to a rigid wing design.

  • I scooter tow here in Ohio, where is this location? Nice video!

  • @multigunlover While strenght of wing structure depends on spars, strenght of HG wing is mostly on lines going to speedbar. With dihedral angle wing tips wouldnt get enough angle I think. Plus it is preferable to have quite elastic wingtips as scratching ground is quite common.

  • @wmadams1 learn something new every day.

that would explain my dads designs..

  • Does anyone else hear an alarm clock ringing 4:19
