This film is about doing a household chore. Every other night is my husband's turn to do dishes. The deal is if I cook than he has to do the dishes. He hates this job but does it willingly because he also does not want to cook. Our kitchen isn't huge but there is limited amount of space for dirty dishes. This is why every evening after dinner we take turns to get rid of the dishes so they are not there for us when we wake up the next morning. Doing the dishes isn't either of our favorite chores but it is necessary especially for items that do not fit in the dish washer. When I was a child my mother always stressed the fact that the dishes were always done right after dinner. She would always say "a clean home starts in the kitchen" meaning if the kitchen is dirty than so is the rest of the house. She taught me the importance of a clean home and now I am trying to teach that to my husband. The first step of this job is to run warm water and combine it with dish soap. When there is a decent amount of warm sudsy water in the sink he begins to wash them. As you watch the film you can notice that with utensils he chooses not to wash the handle on almost all of them. He tends to just wash the part that touched the food and forgets about the part where human germs touched. I tend not to point these things out to him otherwise he will probably not do the dishes anymore. After he washes a dish he then runs it under cool water to rinse off the soap. After he has done this he places the dish on a towel next to the sink. Neither of us like to dry dishes , so they sit on the towel drying until the next morning when they are put away. In my genealogy I come from Amish and Mennonite families where women do everything within the house and men do everything outside of the home. However, as my family has left those strict ways of life men have begun to help more within the household . In my grandparents home I have never once seen my grandfather help my grandmother with dishes or cleaning or any household chores. In my parent's home my father will help my mother some with the dishes if she is too busy or isn't feeling well. I like the fact that my husband is more involved with the chores and am willing to help out with these small tasks.
