Um what happens if you turn 20 but you don't show up to the ceremony?
Are still "officially" an adult????
-
No wonder there's a word for 20 years old lol.

There's no real 'coming-of-age' ceremony in American culture. There are some traditions for people who turn 21 (lots of drinking) but it all depends on what culture you're raised in. Things would be a bit different if the immigrants from 100-200 years ago would have kept most of their cultural heritage instead of trying to fit in with the rest of the settlers here.

@HardcoreCaliKid Everybody who is 20-years old, on that day celebrates their "Coming of Age" by gathering at the City Hall and "officially" becoming adults in Japan's society.
