I am a huge fan of Joe Simon, yet I don't have all of his records. He has done so many! I have many of the classics, like "Drowning In A Sea Of Love" and "The Chokin' Kind".. I even have a country LP he did (!) and now I have a Disco LP too. And it ain't bad at all. He could sing the phone book and make it soulful and interesting.
The cover on this 1979 LP "Happy Birthday, Baby" also deserves a special comment. A friend of mine, upon seeing it, shook his head, laughed and said "what was Joe thinking?". I think it is a fun photo. To me, this just exemplifies how music and how it is promoted has changed since the 70's. This is a fun cover and I'd buy it just for the picture alone. I wonder how Joe Simon feels, he has apparently withdrawn form secular music altogether and ever says he "hated R&B" and "I knew that the need was there for me to start getting something else in my life other than what I was doing, which was serving Satan*". *quite from: http://mississippilink.com/news/article_e91ec664-e76a-5983-b56a-4841f6e9a0d6....
The song "I Wanna Taste Your Love" was the only single to make it to Billboard's top 100 R&B chart in 1979. It peaked at #87.
