Modern western gyms are mainly based on body building and feature far too many machines. (they've sold out). I suggest using Kettlebells for dynamic performance and exposive power. Use dumbells for general strength. Stay away from the weight machines and go the nowhere aeorobic machines.

How can I talk my gym into getting some of these and what should I suggest they get variety-wise?

Obviously all gyms are different but kettlebells are gaining popularity in the US.You can point out that kettlebells are being featured in Men's Health often. You can find them in most gym supply catalogs like Perform Better. So far the cheapest I have found are made by Ader and I really like their bells.
Assuming you are covering all ranges of men and women 8K, 16K and 24K pairs would be a great start. That will run them probably $300-$500. If they are successful, they can get other bells later.

I prefer modern western weight training.

"modern western weight training" and kettlebells are not mutually exclusive. Most of the weight training I have done has been "modern western weight training".
Variety is the spice of life.
