This is my very first attempt at singing alongside my guitar playing (albeit with the backing played on my Boss RC3 looper). And certainly the first time my singing voice has been heard in public. Quite a challenge especially as I chose a real classic - St James Infirmary Blues. Wikipedia says that this song may have originated in the 18th century. But it was made popular by Louis Armstrong in the late 1920s and then by a long long list of notable performers after that. So there is plenty of opportunity to compare my effort with those of top professionals...may be it was a mistake to pick this song. However, I think my version is among the grungiest with my sad old voice constantly flat adding a really miserable tone. Strangely, I was quite enjoying myself at the time. Feedback welcome.

For those who like to know, the guitar is tuned to open e and the slide is a glass one. And I used my new Blue Snowball mic.

  • Thanks for your comment. And thank you for the introduction to Maki Asakawa's work. She is quite superb. Lots on youtube clips to guide me towards getting one of her albums for a proper listen.

  • Slide guitars fit this music very well. I often play this music well, too. In the case of me, it is only a brief guitar and song. "MAKI ASAKAWA" is famous for a musician covering this music in Japan.
