Because I didn't finish all the other tasks I wasted to much time and couldn't stop the destruction of Rama.However Arthur C. Clarke does make an apearance following Rama's destruction.

I don't think Arthur is saying that destroying the incoming craft is what he'd do, but he's saying that's what earth would do.
Do you destroy something that's unknown, has unknown intentions, and is unfathomable?
