This performance was captured on December 4, 2008, just a few minutes after these four singer-songwriters finished a show at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. The singers are (clockwise from left) Rose Cousins, Jennifer Kimball, Anne Heaton, and Rose Polenzani. "Lonesome Polecat" is originally featured in the musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1954). Rose Polenzani plays baritone ukulele and Rose Cousins plays mandola. Puppet & set construction, video footage & editing by Rose Polenzani. Puppet animation by Rose Polenzani with the help of Jess (hound dog) Fox and Nicole (hoot owl) Soriano for the trio scenes. Thanks to Bobby and Nicole for feedback on the puppets.

  • this makes me happy :)

  • I know it's supposed to be a song for a lonesome polecat, but this song makes me stupidly happy. I might need to dance a finger puppet 'round my desk..

  • @jamiebustabade Hey I just wanted to say thanks for this comment - I have a little girl now and this makes me really happy to hear... I am getting into the whole bedtime routine now and for whatever reason I can only ever think of christmas carols to sing to her. I have sung this once or twice to her... love this song!

  • @crcaples hey I just saw this - thanks!! wow, amazing. I love the movie, and my mom and I always loved the axe ballet, so I am actually really really touched that you like this version better! The chords are G and C I think, they just cycle back and forth. And I have a little girl now and I like to sing it to her... much love, your dad was great! rose

  • I just love this. Great job ladies!

  • I wanted to thank you for making such a wonderful video! You all sound beautiful together. I sing this song to my son when he is cranky and when we're doing the bed, bath, bottle routine and it always calms him down. The other day he was all mad waiting in the car with me for his Daddy. I looked for the song to play a video for him and found this. HE LOVED IT!! The video was perfect for him, we love the little finger puppets :-) Love you guys!! Thanks again!!

  • you are all so beautiful and this song makes me very happy too.
