Lyrics :
Say you love me or leave me and let me be lonely
You won't believe me, but I love you only
I'd rather be lonely than happy with somebody else

You might say that the night time's the right time for kissing
But night time is my time for just reminiscing
And regretting instead of forgetting somebody else

There'll be no one unless that someone is you
I intended to be independently blue

I want your love, don't wanna borrow
Have it today to give it back tomorrow
My your love is your love
It's no love for nobody else

Say you love me or leave me and let me be lonely
You won't believe me, but I love you only
I'd rather be lonely than happy with somebody else

You might find that the night time's the right time for kissing
But night time is my time for just reminiscing
Regretting instead of forgetting that somebody else

There'll be no one unless that someone is you
I intended to be independently blue

Oh, I want your love, don't wanna borrow
Have it today to give it back tomorrow
My love is your love,
Oh, your love is my love
There's no love for nobody else

Love Me or Leave Me" is a U.S. popular song from the 1920s.
The music was written by Walter Donaldson and the lyrics by Gus Kahn.
The song was introduced in the Broadway play, Whoopee!
The original version of the song was recorded by Ruth Etting on December 17, 1928.
As the song was considered to be one of Etting's biggest hits,
its title was chosen for the 1955 biographical movie about her life,
in which Doris Day played Etting.
Day's recording of the song, from the soundtrack,
became a major hit for her.
The same year, Lena Horne also experienced success with her version of the song.
Singer/pianist/songwriter Nina Simone also recorded the song
on her debut album Little Girl Blue (1958) and Let It All Out (1966).
Simone's version was included on the soundtrack of the film Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss.
It has also been covered by Olivia Newton John.

  • Jewel can't really be put in a genre .. she likes a lot of stuff and different styles that you don't hear on her cd's.

  • i loved doris day's version

  • well... it was nice of her to try. It shows she respects those breautiful songtresses of the past. This is ok, just ok. I't not bad. It's just ok. She's still good at her thing. But I really like what that piano and guitar are doing. Oh Gosh. That's not bad at all.

  • @tonhaoneto77 Nah, Ruth Ettig was MUCH better, back in the 1930s.

  • I've never been a Jewel fan, but this is nice

  • @tonhaoneto77 - dats wascists.

  • Was she drunk? What's her excuse for this disgraceful mess?

  • The version of Jewel is truly amazing, but for me nobody sings it better than the great, beautiful and legendary Nina Simone, because for me black american people have got the best voices for jazz. Almost all black american singers have got silver and splendid voices.

  • Omg! Awful cover.

  • love this version!!!!

    just heard Ruth´s !!!

    Good go Jewel!!!

  • Thanks again remase! I saw Jewel earlier this month and as we waited in line the crowd was talking about how thankful we are to you for your rare posts!

  • Nina, on behalf of Jewel, I'm sorry... From the bottom of my heart I apologize..
