Confederates in Mexico

After the Civil War in the US many former Confederates went to Mexico where they established the colony of "Carlota" in Veracruz. As the US government had long supported the republicans under Juarez with money, men and guns the Confederates were natural allies of Emperor Maximilian and the French who had come close to recognizing the CSA.

The highest ranking Mexican-American of the Civil War was in the Confederate army. Colonel, later Brigadier General, Santos Benavidez from Laredo. He was the first Hispanic to become a general in the American military, the Confederate military.

I didn't know that. I'm mexican and I'm interested in american civil war, but it seems that main reasons were not really related to slavery, so what it was really about? Ano more question, I've watched some videos here in youtube about Dixie song and many southerners support an uprising against your government, do you think that a south uprising is really possible. Who knows how world history would have been affected if there had been a strong Empire and a strong Southern Confederacy. Now both peoples are under a despotic group of thugs who pretend to be acting in their best interests. Mexico has never recovered and who knows about the Empire there now? We who revere the CSA are despised and insulted by our own government.Lies are taught to our children about our history in schools we pay for.There will be Divine justice but I long for here and now.
