Making tomato upma for two people.
Here are the ingredients..
This is roasted rava..
This is cut peices of about 4 green chillies. .
This is jeera...
Karepak or curry leaves.
Moong dall, chana dall .. tomato peices
cilantro or kothmir..
haldi, ginger peices,
salt powder...
mustard seeds
water about twice the volume of rava...

Heat about 5 table spoons of cooking oil

Add in sequence,
the mustard seeds,
second, the green chillies,
third is the jeera seeds, fourth curry leaves,
fifth the moong dall, sixth the chana dall, seventh is the jeera, eighth is the haldi,
wait for a minute ...
then add the cut tomatoes in it ..
stir the mix so that all are uniformly mixed ... and wait till the tomatoes cook fully ...
keep stirring from time to time to prevent it from getting burnt...
when the tomatoes have cooked add the rava and salt and mix thoroughly ....
then add the water .. twice the volume of rava ..
mix again to remove lumps ..
turn down the flame and put a lid on the cooking vessel...
leave for about five minutes..

After five minutes stirr the mixtuer thoroughly till the required consistency is obtained...
and then add the finely chopped cilantro and mix thoroughly again .. turn off the heat .. allow to cool for a few minutes...

To serve it .. stuff it in a suitable cup and shake it out on a plate.. like so ...
then
EAT !

  • u can add tomatoes if you so prefer .. upma is basically this simple dish.. in a kichdi they add peas, cauliflower, carrots, beans, and any other suitable vegetable and make it a little more fluid than an upma....hope this clarifies thanks for your comments !
