  • I think most of you are missing the concept here. Style is a biproduct of preference - it's simply what the practicioner prefers. When it comes to battle, the better martial artist will stand at the end. Period. Arguing ryu vs. ryu is like arguing about which color is the 'best.'

  • Also, the lethal techniques are useless if you don't have the fundamentals to make them work. Just look at all the "traditionalists" who get their butts kicked by beginner MMA guys. They all trusted their "deadly" techniques to help them out, but they had no speed, no power, no timing, no experience in resisting opponents, etc. Karate is among the greatest martial arts if you train in it correctly, in my opinion.

  • All Karate paths derive from one path - Karate - Do. It doesnt matter which style u practice, you are the one that makes it a "Do".

  • @jadekayak01 ...... When insulting people and calling them failures becomes the first step in avoiding fights I am sure you will be able to show your superiority. Until that time comes your comment makes you look like a foolish person, attempting to START an argument\fight while telling someone else they are a failure for even being in one. ..... good luck in life with that approach

  • @mrtedlos You show your ignorance-kamikaze does not mean "suicide bomber".

It can mean alot of things in Japanese depending on the kanji used but the most well known version is "divine wind"

  • @MrGarnache I guess your training was a complete failure then as you are supposed to avoid fights

  • @MrGarnache What is right and wrong.Take seienchin kata from Goju. Many styles use this kata and every style does it slightly different!,with a different application for the techniques and the explanations all work.

Maybe people should stop messing with the katas and perform them EXACTLY as they were intended by the inventor.Even then perfect kata does not equal effective application

  • @MrGarnache - "I don't want to argue with you but it's a fact that people who are good at kata are also good at using it in a fight." I totally agree. There's no argument from me on the score as long as it's 'good kata'. We all have our own experiences and I can tell you from personally knowing 2 national kata champions and they were both useless at anything other than 'air karate' or what I call performance kata. The problem is it was not actually good kata.

  • @BelloBudo007 Mr Tanaka is a 2 time all Japan Katate Champion who moved to Alaska and Opened Tanaka's Martial arts Acedemy many years ago ..... I believe he is 9th degree and obviously quite well known in shito-ryu circles in both America, Japan and the world. I don't want to argue with you but it's a fact that people who are good at kata are also good at using it in a fight. I don't think the other Sensei Tanaka is related but I never asked him and he might be. It's a common name obviously

  • @MrGarnache - The point that I was actually trying make is that there are people getting around in kata competitions who I know for a fact to be totally ineffective at applying karate technique. They may be kata champions but frankly they could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag because they have not approached their karate in a balanced way. IMHO karate needs to be both effective and beautiful. Maybe Mr. Tanaka agrees and maybe he doesn't.
