  • I used to be a windows user .. But then I took a virus in the BIOS ..

  • Used Ubuntu since it started. I wouldnt use Winders again - 'tho W7 is not that bad. The Linux downside was the very steep and frustrating learning curve where community helpers seemed to speak a totally different language. I'm learning to code now.

Most people just want their system to work and are not IT professionals (and have families and other jobs and professions to think about).

Ubuntu is now more user friendly than ever but it's been a haul! I'd even recommend it to my dad who is 87!

  • @EpsilonVector Yeah I suppose those are some credible downfalls but to get Linux in proper working order really doesn't require that much tampering. at least on the more popular Linux Disro's. For me I simply can install restricted extra's on install and boom done.

  • @PoliticalDestruction Corrections are perfectly fine. Regarding codecs: it's true that you still install some of them on Windows, but this is substantially worse on most Linux distros where functionality you take for granted, like playing an MP3 or watching a DVD is missing by default. Windows is substantially better with this. As for viruses, I'm fairly certain root is denied by default on Win7 as well, and a previliges policy is not a silver bullet for computer security.

  • use faronics deepfreeze and you can play with viruses...

  • oh it has a built in calander omg i am going to the shop and buying it now lol

  • @mozgren Well it might be because i'm somewhat tech-savy but when i switched to Ubuntu as my primary OS i didn't find there to be that steep of a learning curve and If i had a problem I could easily understand those in the forums describing fixes.

  • @EpsilonVector Let me correct you: 1. It is very much harder to create a virus for a Linux based computer mainly due to root control denied by default, requiring a password, and also your point 2. By stating Linux is not ready out of the box basically you are saying neither is windows. You still have to install codecs...On the latest versions of Ubuntu you can choose to install the codecs upon installing the O.S. I don't mean to insult but corrections were in order

  • Goddamit... You can sell Linux, people don't make viruses for Linux not because it's free but because its market share is too small to bother with, Linux does not come ready out of the box (most of the distributions do not come with popular codecs), and Microsoft does not offer paid PC repair services!!! You barely even know what you are talking about...

  • hv no patience to hear wt u r saying dude!!!!
