I made a video with Jack about Unschooling. It was hard to hear because we recorded it with an iPhone, so I thought I would redo it and use some notes to stay on track. Sorry if it looks like I am reading my notes sometimes- I am! Here are the most important points I tried to make in the video.
Unschooling means total freedom to learn what we want to learn when we want to learn it.
I'm not Anti School or Anti Learning- I'm just PRO FREEDOM.
Getting deeper into my interests makes my life happier!
I have obscure interests that weren't focused on in school, like old Nick TV shows.

I learn my own way. Our days have a flow to them even though we don't have a schedule. We decide what we are doing for the day, not a teacher.

I get to use technology more now that I am out of school

Reading ability has improved since I got out of school
I read a chapter book of 217 pages in 2 days! Uninterrupted time helps to accomplish my goals! No bells are ringing to tell me I have to stop, like in school.

We go lots of places, are involved in a lot of activities, and have lots of experiences. We go to Disney, are involved in Martial Arts, horseback riding, acrobatics, and pottery. My brother and I are learning how to run an eBay business by having our mom sell our old video games and DVD's online.

Family time- we are bonded with our parents. Some kids get dropped off before school at 6 and don't get home until 6. That's 12 hours away from home and family. Home and family are very important to us and we feel lucky that we get to spend so much time at home with our family because we don't go to school.

We support each others' interests. We are all into raw food and like to try new recipes together. My mom is into decorating so I record HGTV shows for her. It's not just about the kids- it's about the whole family learning and growing together.

Thanks for subbing and liking my videos, and know that I read all your comments.

  • Your videos are so helpful! You lead an amazing life and you inspire so many people. Thank you!

  • If you couldn't keep up with school than you are better to learn at home at your own pace but it actually shows that you might have some sort of learning disability. Anyways I was laughing at this whole unschool thing but I believe that you at least learning something unlike other videos I've seen. You seemed to be more homeschooled than unschooled. Heres the def. unschooled-lacking in schooling; "untaught people whose verbal skills are grossly deficient"; "an untutored genius" google it :D

  • I like some aspects of unschooling, but kids have to do things they don't always want to or they'll be unprepared to work for a boss.

  • Kiddo school exposes you to things you might have thought you wouldn't want to learn but end up loving. My parents made me take ski lessons and I learned I am a very good skier.

  • Bella you're adorable! Thank you so much for posting this video! This has really helped me as a young parent to see that unschooling can truly be beneficial for my little girl. Stay sweet <3 -Celina

  • Haha "a book" ya know, picture books. wow. i could read that book in 1 hour.

  • Is he a hippie? :P

  • Great video!! You have a great point about being able to take your time to do what you want without interruptions.

  • Really cool video...kid you have my respect! You're one living proof to unschool my own daughter...keep it up ;-)

  • Nice T-Shirt
