The sole survivor of the Thor-Ws' that entered the Starport at the start of this mission now tries to engage. The blue tidal wave of C/ER-PPC fire cuts it down in its tracks, the Thor only managing a single Ultra Autocannon shot before it falls.

Next come the Cougars parked nearby; then the two Masakaris guarding the Orbital Guns here. The first Masakari manages to close with my Mechs, most of their C/ER-PPC fire missing it...and runs right into my Force Group 3, all packing Clan Heavy Ultra Autocannons. Owie. (Video time 01:30). It explodes, spinning several circles before collapsing! Ha. What a sight. Firestorm Jumps the wall again, capturing the Turret Control Tower; and the other Masakari gets pounded by the turrets around it. My Mechs join in the fray, hastening its defeat.

Everyone fixes themselves up again at the Repair Bay here, then attacks the Orbital Guns. Attacking the second Orbital Gun here, activates the two Vulture-Js', Thor-J and Mad Cat-J nearby, who leap the walls...right into the blue blizzard of destruction. One last visit to the repair bay, then my force moves on the final set of Orbital Guns at the top of the map.

The land bridge there is barred by two Masakari-As', and the islands nearby hold shut-down, Hunchback Js' waiting to ambush your forces. I lure the Masakaris towards my Mechs, finishing each one with a combined barrage from all 19 C/ER-PPCs, then take on the Hunchbacks. I assign F1 and F2 to blast the Hunchbacks furthest from them; F3 mixes it up at close range with the Hunchbacks, trading Heavy Ultra Autocannon fire, ensuring that the Hunchbacks, even at close range, won't survive long against my elite forces.

When the last Hunchback bites the dust, my Mechs head north. I put a sensor probe there, and see that a final enemy Mech defends the Orbital Guns there. As I run my Mechs towards their objective, I screen their payloads for damage from that slugest(video time 05:32); Hitman has lost one ER Medium Laser, and that's it. The last Masakari survives all of 3 seconds before exploding spectacularly from the C/ER-PPCs detonating its reactor (video time 06:15). I destroy the Orbital Guns, F3 emptying its last autocannon ammo into them, and the mission ends in success with still over 20 minutes to spare on the clock!

Time to sit back and enjoy the closing cutscene (video time 07:13)

  • In case that someone still reads these comments: How come you guys seem to salvage so much more of clan mechs than i ever managed to salvage? Did they get those aimed shots working in Gold or was that only on MC2?

    Also, has anyone managed to get MC working in 7 ?

  • @sjumppanen The aimed shots never worked. The trick is the correct heavy/light weapons ratio to maximise salvage chances. 1:2 or 1:3 usually. Hope this helps.

  • This was probably the first strategy/tactics game I ever beat. Loved it.

  • I played this game, but stopped because of computer incompatibilities. Loved MC2 though. I had no idea there were warhawks in this game though...why didn't MC2 have them!?

    Both this game and MC2 are now public domain: it's legal to download them and install. Unfortunately the free download they provide is a CD, and the game still has its protection intact. Can somebody please crack it? Otherwise I need to learn how to break the protection (I read the instructions somewhere, they were long)

  • Have to agree with the Hitman choice although Hunter is up there in my favourite pilots too. Spare parts for everyone!

    I think most annoying would have to be Siren..
