It's a figure of speech. It originally means being beat up or struck in a fight. However in this case it refers to John Stossel's harsh criticism of the company Serious Materials. In other words: Stossel gave them 'a beating'.

I agree, at least somebody isn't afraid to speak out about our new dictatorship. It's really creepy. Just the other day I posted on Yahoo in reponse to a potential agenda to overthrow the Iranain goverment....I said, they're not a threat to us.....this makes no sense....they'd leave us alone, if we'd leave them alone. Not only was that comment taken down, they disenabled me to post anything else.
