Inspired by the design of The Clock of the Long Now - I attempted designing a new kind of clock mechanism. This one won't run for 10,000 years, but it does use an impulse driven "spinner" instead of a pendulum.

The electronics drive the impulse duration and offset - I'm currently experimenting with how to control the angular velocity to keep it to 1 sec / rotation.

Instead of using conventional step down gearing, this clock uses cams and "geneva" wheels to count seconds/minutes/hours with the rotation of the 5 brass spindles coming from the top of the clock.

These still need to be coupled to readout dials...

  • Ak... JOHN harrison.. John..

  • Beautiful.

I am a fan of James Harrison's work in the field of Horology and this reminds me so much of his masterpieces H1 and H2 at Greenwich.

Being an ex-patriate Brit like youself I hope you had the chance to see them working before you moved.

    Myself - Australia based now

    Take Care
