Atlanta, GA - SB 529, the "OB/GYN Criminalization and Racial Discrimination Act," the companion bill to HB 1155 that is stalled in the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, passed out of the Georgia Senate today with a vote of 33-15. Democrats filibustered for over nearly two hours in an attempt to raise critical questions and concerns regarding the discriminatory impact of the bill, its constitutionality and broad legal and criminal implications for physicians. Senators Vincent Fort, Curt Thompson, Nan Orrock, Horacena Tate, and Donzella James went to 'the well' in our defense raising concerns ranging from Constitutional concerns to health care disparities and lack of family planning funding.
