Also , from DVD-Roms you only can get 650 nm , maximum with 400 mWatt beam laser diods . Toy for 10-year kids .

@Klimerts Cheapest way - buy somewhere stolen DVD-R drive , get from there laser diod , buy driver and optics module , and woila - 300 mW 650 nm burning laser in your pocket for only 30$(7$ for driver , 10$ for optics , and 13$ for optical drive) .

@xTalentHD any 5mw will travel well and is safe. I like the green laser for visibility and get one with a adjustable lens. You can focus even the low power 5mw lasers at about any distance.
