Mercer sang Mercer better than anyone. On iTunes there's a Capital Collector series album that is simply tremendous. His version of "One For My Baby (And One More For the Road" blows Sinatra out of the park. Every song on it is a gem.

Two of the main founders (Mercer & Slack) of Capitol records - this early baby is issue #22 overall for the infant label.
The label's first big hit, IIRC, was Ella Mae Morse w/Freddie Slack's orch. doing "Cow Cow Boogie" - record #102 and I let it get broken in a move.....
