did his detector ever work?

It did feel like they threw that whole human cylon thing together last min, but it still worked out good if you ask me
-
The problem is, it was never established that the Baltar test was effective for the final five, who were of different origin. I'm assuming he didn't know and was just effing with her.

@zakfmt God that scene was hilarious ... I was laughing my ass off. "tigh me up tigh me down" was probably the funniest episode of BSG.
-
That scene, another where Virtual/Angel Six leans over Baltar while he talks to Saul and Ellen and Six says, "Watch this one." There was also another but I can't remember as of now.

If you watched the mini seris it took up to 3 hours for cylons to respond to radiation and they got the guns and got straight out Leoben was in there for 24 hours

this is how i knew.
also, the scene in tigh me up tigh me down when they are having dinner with the adamas and roslin and someone says something about cylons. the whole room goes silent. then ellen says "boo," both ellen and saul burst out laughing. the rest of the room remains silent.

It just goes to show how good the writers on the show are.

Except that Baltar's test wouldn't work on any of the 5 because they don't respond to radiation the way the other cylons do, which was the basis for the test. So in theory, her test would have actually read negative for being a cylon, but I might be wrong.

Wow . . . That had to have been the biggest hint. How could I have missed that? I did have an idea about Ellen being the fifth but I didn't think, then, that it would have played out well. But seeing that it did, it was kind of tragic and poetic in a sense.
would be a nice explanation if Moore didn't say in an interview that he only decided in the middle of the 3rd season that Ellen was the fifth.

Wow, thanks for letting me voice my opinion in an open forum without making some pithy remark.
Yeah, a real curve ball. Just because something's a curve ball doesn't mean it's a good thing.
Oh and the 'ground work' is nothing more than coincidence. Moore has made no secret that he only plans the show one series at a time.
Maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves anyway. The whole thing could still be misdirection. If Ellen's the fifth, what does that make Starbuck?
