MPB's QUORUM examines the big money questions facing the Mississippi State Legislature. On the one hand, economic troubles chip away at state revenues and lawmakers find themselves with fewer resources to muster. On the other, as Mississippians struggle to make ends meet, more and more of them turn to the state for aid. And they continue to depend on political leadership to support and improve the traditional services of government, such as education and public safety. House Ways & Means Chairman Percy Watson and Senate Finance Chairman Dean Kirby join House Appropriations member Cecil Brown and Senate Appropriations member Terry Burton on the live panel. And Marianne Hill, Senior Economist for the Institutions of Higher Learning, discusses such factors as performance-based budgeting and economic trends on the state and national levels.
